A Learning Center Makeover

University Synagogue’s Early Childhood Learning Center in Los Angeles, California has gone through some exciting summer renovations. Newer research and studies about early childhood development have shown children respond to an atmosphere that is calm and reflects a home, rather than the institutional look of the past. Moreover, these studies indicate that environment has a strong effect on the child as a whole including their stress level, cognitive development, attention span and behavior. Bright colors on the walls have been removed and replaced with light, neutral and warm tones. The purchase of new wooden chairs in each classroom helps to further our design goal of a school that reflects nature. This also allows the children and their artwork to take center stage, with the majority of color in the room coming from their projects! The pride in each little face is priceless! We are thankful for the support of the Temple Board of Trustees, the efforts from last year’s fundraising and many parents who helped work on this project, helping our vision and future take shape.
